SO WHAT. Maybe it wasn't your son's business why she was going to be gone. Teachers do have surgeries and other things that are private....and "I'm going to work on my tan" is a much niver reply that "It is none of your business", which you would complain about as well.

It's her time....part of her contract.It's not your concern.

I completely agree with Chloe. A 5th grader is old enough to know that he has no business asking why his teacher is taking a sick leave day. It is possible the teacher was taking a "personal leave day" which teachers do have. It is also possible that her answer was clearly putting the boy in his place by basically saying "it`s not of your business" by answering this way. If you take a sick day off from work, do you have to give details to your employees? Do employees have the right to ask their boss why he/she is taking a sick leave? No. The teacher handled this situation in an appropriate manner.
