It's aggravating. My French teacher, who is new at our school, treats us like toddlers and doesn't take anything we say seriously. (This is French 3-4, in high school, with varying ages of students from 15-18)
She talks to us slowly and condescendingly as though we are mentally retarded. No one has been learning anything at all, not that it's affecting our grades, since her grading system is relatively disturbed. (ex: Most students are getting straight A's while doing nothing more than sleeping in class; her tests are just so unbelievably easy, and we go over the same vocabulary for about 2 weeks, while some kids are getting F's because she gives them F's for participation for sleeping in class...while for other students she doesn't? I don't understand her...)
Anyways, lately, some kids have been taking to suggesting to her that she incorporates some real world knowledge, and changes some things to make things more interesting, since pretty much every single day, she's been doing the exact same thing, over and over, going over the same vocabulary with the same methods. But instead of taking what we say seriously, she just laughs like we're joking and ignores anything else we say.
I'm tired of not learning anything.
I know I can study on my own and learn...but I feel like this is just a waste of my time, and that I could have just taken another class.
Are some teachers just like this? She used to teach 8th graders at a middle school, but the world language exploratory program was cut due to a lack in funding, and they owed her a job, so they gave her a list of the teachers with one-year contracts, and she decided to take our old French teacher's job.

Language classes are so much different than any of the other classes. I do understand that you are extremely smart and things aren't moving fast enough for you or that you may not find the class challenging enough. If you look around your class a little closer, just as you said before, there are different ages/grades/levels of maturity. And the teacher is responsible for teaching every single one of them. When teaching a language is always better to go slow and make sure that everyone in class got the lesson and not just you. The key to learning a language is practice practice and more practice or you will forget most after some time. If the problem that you have is that the class is not challenging enough, you need to inform your parents of this situation and then speak with your teacher in a respectful manner and let her know how you feel and what you needs in her class are: for instance additional work, may be an special activity or assignment outside the class that is related to the subject and so on, on top of your regular work. As far as her grading system being "unfair," I am sorry to inform you I personally don't see anything wrong with it and it is up to her indiscretion how to implemented it. Giving an f for sleeping during class, detention after class and a phone call to your parents at your age is totally fair and appropriate. Based on the facts you have presented about her, Mrs. Villa doesn't really deserve to be in this forum.
