Teacher Complaint: Cristiana Gentry Broome - Mcgavock Comprehensive High School
This is not so much an "incident" as ongoing unprofessional behavior on the part of the McGavock High School Dance teacher and cheer coach. I have never witnessed such blatant bias and favoritism coupled with public humiliation of students in all of my years in academia. This "teacher" is so proud of the fact that she has students that babysit her son and come to her house to clean that she talks about it on Facebook. She has crushed the dreams of so many students who simply wanted to experience the joy of dance or the commraderie of group activity (cheeleading) with her made up rules that smack totally against the rules of the district with regards to academic requirements for participation in extra curricular activities.
I have come to understand that the fees of $800 - $900 for participation in cheering and dance are not "out of the ordinary", but when parents consistently complain of a lack of reconciliation between what they are asked to pay - with additional requests coming throughout the year - and what they are receiving, there should be some deliberate effort on the part of the administration to put things to right.
When EVERY semester, some student drops from cheerleading or dance because of the treatment and then are denied the materials that they paid for because they are no longer "one of the group", there should be come attention paid to this.
When EVEY semester, a parent has a less than pleasant encounter with this teacher and is subjected to the same condecending tone that she uses with the students, there is something more going on than just someone having a bad day.
Parents have removed students from her class, pulled students from after school activity, and I know of at least one student that left McGavock instead of having her dream of cheering taken away from her.
However, the other piece of enlightenment that I have received is that NO ONE wants to follow through on any of the complaints against this teacher because of her family ties to the City and to the School Board. It's unfortunate that the well being of our students have taken a back seat to this kind of nepotism.
