Teacher Complaint: Ms. Vasta - Garden City Elementary School

This is not the first complaint I have had for this teacher. My son started school and was doing really well but due to large class size he was moved into a different classroom. He is now bullied by almost all the kids in his class as well as his teacher. He is a good 9in taller than the next tallest in his class which makes him stand out and since he stands out he is singled out any time the teacher get mad. right before his first school play several kids were knocking their hats off each other but he was singled out and wasn't allowed to participate. easter egg hunts and silly hat day as well. As a matter of fact, he hasn't been allowed to participate in any special or holiday activity. He is 5! he is singled out by the kids in his class and the teacher as well every day. he comes home saying he hates himself and wants to die because everyone is so mean to him. His teacher even said its hard for her to treat him like everyone else because she expects more because of his size. Again, He is 5!! No 5 year old should hate him or herself and want to die. Ever! And for her to know that she over punishes him and take no step to correct her behavior is uncalled for.

Any good teacher should know that the size of the child is not important when it comes to the maturity of the child. Maturity of a child come with age. She should be fire of that position just by stating that statement makes her look incompetent. A teacher should never allow other student/s to bully your child. They are suppose to provide and encourage a positive atmosphere and a safe place where children should learn. I am afraid to tell you this because the school system will turn against you and will help the teacher while your son suffers. I think that you need to intervene in your child growth. She is obviously a bad teacher and doesn't understand good teaching practices or she does understand and it is to lazy to actually do what is right and expected of her/him. Every single day, your child comes home, you need to document every thing he says, any notes or comments the teachers tells you, the date etc. That is called documentation. By a folder where you can save everything. Even if there is a problem with your child, the teacher is supposed to come up with a plan to help your child succeed in school. Instead of saying well he deserves what he gets for being told. Document everything is your only chance. At least you have this posted online.
