Teacher Complaint: Coach Sam Roberson - Highland Park Middle School

Coach Sam Roberson (Coach "Rob") has been harrassing, taunting and verbally students on a daily basis for many years and still Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD) in University Park, Texas allows this sadistic adult to torment young male students (whom he specifically targets). Parents have filed many complaints with HPISD and Coach Sam Roberson was removed as baseball coach from Highland Park High School and transferred to HPMS Highland Park Middle School where he can now be found bullying students in classes and those who are held as a captive audience in the small room for in school detentions known as the ISS room or Inner School Suspension room. He has been verbally abusive to even special education students. He makes snide, cutting remarks and will even physically push and poke students. During his ten plus years with HPISD, many parents have filed complaints, many students have been traumatized by his torment and one student even ended his own life due to the daily abuse he suffered from Coach Roberson. Coach Sam Roberson should never be allowed to interact with young people and yet he continues. Highland Park Independent School District needs to get rid of him before he causes any more suffering.

Your allegations, Mr/Ms anonymous contributor, are both inaccurate and grossly irresponsible. I can only assume that you have never spent time directly observing or under the guidance of Coach Roberson, and have formed your opinions based on hearsay and similarly insubstantial evidence. The truth is that Coach Rob was my coach, in some form or another, for six years. He was tough, and like any coach, there was locker-room bickering regarding his coaching methods and his personality, a lot of which inevitably got home to parents. Some of it was justified, some was not. I admit thinking he had gone too far a time or two. But he is not the only coach who I have believed to have crossed a line, and there certainly wasn't so egregious a misstep that I bear any long term resentment. Quite the opposite, I remember him as one of the most deeply caring coaches I have ever played under. As far as abuses are concerned, unless his sadism is a recent development, that is totally baseless. Demanding of respect and hard work, not afraid to push students, caring when most other teachers and coaches are waiting for the 3:00 bell, maybe. Sadistic, never. To special education students? Not the Coach Rob I knew. And the suicide your referring to, well, I hope you know something more than me because that boy was in my class. I don’t claim to know the specifics, but I doubt very much that you do either. From what I do remember, and such events don’t fade easily from memory, that rumor was the product of hallway gossip. To accuse someone of something like that because of personal issues is borderline sadism in and of itself. If you really do have a problem, it might be better to present an actual case of misconduct, rather than a long list of unfounded, unfair accusations.

We need more coachs like Sam. For Christ's sake parents, why do teachers always have to do YOUR job when it comes to discipline???? Have you seen the latest litter offspring that these teachers get to work with?? Some parents should have taken a test and earned a license before the fornication act commenced. Spare the rod, spoil the child.

Keep up the good work Sam, and if you need a new whip or mace, let me know. I can direct you to some loaded-with-discounts sites.
