Teacher Complaint: Frank Bunton - Stanton College Preparatory

Since the beginning of the school year, my classmates and I have been subjected to the ramblings of a man with a teaching philosophy based on a skewed view of a difference between "learning material" and "memorizing tests". Constantly we are spoken to in a horribly condescending tone, outright insulted, and at times harassed - racist comments are quite common. We are at Stanton College Preparatory School, one of the highest rated in the nation and one that takes academic standards and AP/IB exams very, very seriously; he almost always references this fact when referring to us, in a very sardonic, sarcastic, condescending tone.

This would be one thing if the trouble stopped there; but it doesn't. Bunton (or Frank as we have come to call him out of a lack of respect) does not appear to know the material he has been hired to teach. He stands in front of the class, drops the names of books that he claims are "very important" but says nothing about their content (they also appear in perfect, unread condition), drops the names of facts and events without explaining them, draws inexplicable board diagrams, and will often ask questions in a vague, almost loaded manner in an attempt to prevent us from knowing the answer so he can respond with a condescending remark.

To put icing on the cake of evil, Bunton will give tests over material he has not taught, over material not available in our textbook, and over material based on how important HE thinks it is. The class, Advanced Placement United States History, is intended to prepare us for the AP United States History exam. So far, we have learned next to nothing that will be covered by the exam. His tests and essays do not test material that will be on the exam, and he arbitrarily grades assignments, with a system that we have come to suspect is based on how much he likes the student.

This injustice must end, and we're beginning to drop stones in a large way. This will be the first of hopefully many public complaints made against this man. I am not a hateful person, and nor would I wish ill on others, but this man deserves to lose his job.

I had Frank Bunton as a teacher for two years in the IB program. He teaches in a Socratic, well-disciplined manner and has prepared me for college extremely well. His tests are fair. And if you can't handle them now, you won't be able to handle college.

I currently have Mr. Bunton and I have not learned much thus far. I agree that his grading is completely arbitrary, especially with regards to essays and projects. He has even told our class that he does not need to review material from the book with us because "We are IB kids, so we are suppose to be good readers". I'm planning on studying solely from my AP review book for the exam, hopefully I can pass, as all of my class notes are random facts that he deems important.....that show up nowhere in the book or any review book.
