Teacher Complaint: Kelly Fontenot - Lathrop Intermediate

My son said she has herpes sores. When I called to talk to her she was very rude. I'm concerned about the transmission and unhappy with the way she explained them to the class. Overall she is not attentive to the students needs in class.

What kind of a parent would write such a stupid remark about their child's teacher? Wouldn't surprise me if the parent is the one with a mouthful of sores. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Grow up and shut up. This website is nothing more than a bitch session for disgruntled parents who want someone to bully.

For the record, I am not responding as the teacher, only on her behalf. This is a website in my opinion that encourages parents and children to write inappropriate trash about their teachers.

I have heard a similar report from my child who attends her class. This site does encourage parents to write about their teachers. Sometimes it may be an exaggeration. There is one lesson I have learned: Some of the strangest things are actually true!

Jordan please do not inflame the issue by falsely suggesting a parent has a communicable disease. I will handle it in class instead of debating it here where there is no one to read it. I only care about the students and they do like me and what I am able to teach them.

I am a little unclear. Is this complaint issued because the teacher has herpes? Or was it because you called her up and wanted to talk to her about herpes? In any case, it is statistically probable to be infected with herpes simplex 1 by age 12 to young adulthood. Perhaps, mom, you should take the time to educate you and your son about this virus and perhaps you might learn that teaching in front of a class isn't one of the modes of transmission. Information like this is concealed in books.

The location on the body is not relevant. Turns out it's most probably HSV-2. It should be noted that HSV-1 is becoming a major cause of genital herpes. HSV-1 can be spread by skin contact with hands. It is easily transmitted. Only 20% of children in middle income areas have HSV-1. Since we do not know for certain, is this a risk we want to take?

I'm a microbiologist and work specifically with infectious diseases. The number of people in the USA that actually have HSV is quite large, so unless you put your child in a bubble, nothing is perfectly safe. And yes, location on the body does matter. There are definitely more serious locations on the body. In regards to HSV1 vs. HSV2, their genomes vary slightly, but they do, for all case and purposes, act similarly. And what does it do? Causes blisters...oh no. Good luck getting this teacher fired for having herpes. Hopefully she will sue the shit out of the school if she is fired. And FYI, ask.com isn't an authority in the matter. Read a medical text and then we'll talk. I'm sick of people getting a just a little taste of information that seems a little scary and then blowing everything out of context. This is someone's life and career. Granted you care for your child, but please be more educated or seek out an expert before throwing threats around. I bet you are the type of people who are opting not to get their kids vaccinated because you heard some celebrity of TV say it causes autism. Hell, why do we even need scientists anymore if we have Jim Carey handing out medical advice?

Turns out she has HSV2, which of course has nothing to do with the children in her class...
