Teacher Complaint: Ms. Jonica Marshall - Central Middle School District 108

My child has just spent a year with an art teacher that according to others in the community has a habit of losing student's art projects. When the parents complain the teacher then lowers the child's grades.

The first quarter of this past school year Ms. Marshall repeatedly lost my child's art work and did not submit grades. My child also had to show her art projects several times to receive a grade. After emails from myself and my daughter's mother Ms. Marshall went to my child and told her she was trying to get her in trouble and mentioned that we had contacted her. After that things only got worse. By the end of the second quarter we had made complaints to the principle as well. More art projects were lost and Ms. Marshall said our child would have to redo them. Which she did. Until this time she had always made 90 and 100 percents on her grades. After a complaint to the Principal all her grades were dropped down to 70 and 80 percents. This is 6th grade art we are talking about.

At long last we made another complaint to the principal and I had a brief discussion with Ms. Marshall and told my daughter to do extra credit to try and counteract her teachers vengeful gradings. At years end Ms. Marshall very well may have kept my daughter from getting on the A honor roll. I have talked to other parents in the community only to find these exact same things had happened to their children. I have complained to the principal and the school superintendent and now plan on taking this to the school board as well.

This woman( Ms. Marshall ) has a poor reputation in this town and it is a shame she is allowed to teach impressionable young minds. Although one good thing out of this is a good life lesson for our child. There are plenty of people like this she will have to deal with in the workplace when she grows up. I see all of this as very petty and transparent on the teachers part, especially since she has a history of these same actions.

My plan is to complain every time she does this until something is resolved. Other parents I have talked to said they had to let it go for fear it would get worse for their child. My advice to my little girl is keep learning all you can learn and do your best but don't worry about Ms. Marshall's grades. They DON'T matter one iota. Ms. Marshall you get an F in teaching and a 0 in self actualization.
