Teacher Complaint: Ms Palmer - Lea Henry C Sch
My son started Lea in September as an autistic student. He has Asperger's Syndrome which is one of the 5 PPD's on the autism scale. After being assessed by the principal & education coordinator there they agreed with me that he should be mainstreamed. Ms Palmer was picked as his reading comprehension teacher. Due to schedules and my lack of knowledge I didn't get to meet her when he started. I recieved lil notes home about different situations but his main teacher Ms. Mills said it was little to be concerned about. Well Ms. Mills went out on maternity leave in Mid-April. His replacement teacher Dr. Ross let me know there was a problem in his reading class and I needed to address it. So I went to meet Ms. Palmer. She began to tell me how difficult my son was and that she notified her students that Tajmir's brain doesn't function like normal people's do. And she's explaining this to me, and telling me she told a class of 2nd graders this about my child. So, as upset I was about this situation, I left the building because I had to control my anger.
Well I sent her a letter and filed a complaint against her with the school district of Philadelphia, and sent a letter to the principal about her conduct and the situation. I felt she talked down to me, she completely embarressed my son to his class, and if he's being mainstreamed obviously there's nothing wrong with his brain function. So this is how she feels about children in special ed classes. During our talk she also lied and said she never seen his IEP and didn't know his specific problem. Now I notified the principal 2 weeks ago, and filed the complaint with the district the day it happened April 28th, 2010. So far nothing has been done or said to me and no one from the district has contacted me for more information or to say anything.
I'm upset that she actually told this to his peers. First that was confidential information, second why did kids his own age need to know? After questioning my son more he says the kids would say things to him but he didn't tell me because he didn't realize it was wrong. So this is what that teacher did to him all year long?
