Teacher Complaint: Sheryl Otto - William Rainey Harper College
I just received your letter in the mail concerning academic performance and some things WRHC students can do to bring up their GPA. What concerned me was not the suggestions you mentioned in the letter, but the statement you made in your letter about how you and every other staff and faculty member at WRHC cares about student success and the students' strengths. Give me a break! You know what a load of B.S. that is! If you really cared about the students and their strengths and success, you would have sent that letter months or weeks ago, not almost a month after the semester ends! If you truly cared about the strengths of the students and their success, you'd be doing your job a lot better than you apparently are. The Strengths Quest test you have every WRHC student take before they start their first semester at WRHC should be used more. You should be reading the students' reviews of their courses. Why? They tell it like it really is. They help you figure out who the problem faculty and staff are and who are the good ones. You should be getting rid of the problem faculty and staff and bringing in ones that can actually do their job well. It isn't always the students fault that they're not doing well. It's often the teachers' faults that their students aren't performing well in class, especially in the CIS department. For example, all of my classes this past semester were in the CIS department. In all of my classes, there were 20-25 students in each class. Of those 20-25 students, at the most, maybe 5 students or less got passing grades. It became apparent that those students who did receive passing grades were the teachers' pets. I also noticed that the teachers I had weren't using the grading system they had put on their syllabus for their class. They were just pulling numbers and grades out of thin air and acted as if they weren't doing that (which they were). What is wrong with this picture? College shouldn't be that way! It isn't necessarily the students who are the ones in need of help. It's you and the rest of the faculty and staff at WRHC who need the help. Every time WRHC has something on the ballot, I'll vote against it. You guys don't deserve the money taxpayers are giving you. Thankfully, I won't be coming back to WRHC due to the bad experience I had there and what I saw. You're all a bunch of evil, crooked people. That's right. I see you all for who you really are. That's one of my strengths. Thanks for the really atrocious experience I had at WRHC. I'll be watching to see what you decide to do next.
