Teacher Complaint: Maxine B. Williams - Green Fields West Preschool

Ms.Mac Mac is so mean. When my child was in her class, she was miserable, so I withdrew her from the program. She threatened my child with spanking on a regular basis. She'd say, "Your Momma's gonna whoop you good because you been so bad today." I don't believe in spanking and I did not appreciate Ms. Maxine making threats like that to my child. Earlier in the summer I overheard her say to another child, "You better shape up Owen or else Mr. Dwain is gonna take you into the bathroom and spank you." Mr. Dwain Dean is a male daycare worker who works across the hall. He works with Ms. Mac Mac (Maxine) to physically discipline the children. They both seemed to love to have a chance at spanking the children. I didn't know them very well, but to me it seemed like they were both really stupid people. Maxine is old and stupid and Dwain is very young and stupid. "Stupid is what stupid does", as they say in Forrest Gump. I am tired of these old fashioned, corporal-punishment types running these day care centers.

I agree with the writer of the post about Ms. Mac Mac. This past summer, she told my daughter that she should use a switch or a belt when spanking my grandaughter. My daughter told her that "spanking wasn't working" and when Ms. Mac Mac asked her, "Well, how you spankin' her?", my daughter told her that she was giving "GG" a swat on the butt with her hand. Ms. Mac Mac then told my daughter that using her hand "wasn't enough". She told my daughter that she needed to use a "spanking shoe" or a "spanking spoon" on hard-assed kids like "GG". It wasn't long after that little talk that we told my daughter that we weren't going to be footing the bill for paying for daycare. I just don't think that Ms. Mac Mac should be talking about hitting and hurting kids like that.

I want to ad my too cents worth about Mac Mac lady who at that Mrs. Greenfields School. She mean and hateful! She on her phone all the time! She ain't watching the kids cause she on that phone doing watever text text text. That plain wrong.

In defense of the teacher that is written about in this complaint, I would like to explain a few important points. I can tell you that you are not going to find a single child development center in the entire state of Alabama where the teachers don't use "strong words" with their children. These "strong words" may sound like "threats" to some people, but all they are is words. These kids are used to hearing "strong words" from their parents and from their teachers. The kids just don't listen unless you use some fairly harsh language with them. If you can find a daycare center where the teachers only use friendly voices and friendly invitations to behave, then you've probably got a daycare where the teacher only has four-six children in her care. These teachers have to use all the tools they have available to them so that they can keep control of their classrooms. Managing these big groups of children is very, very difficult and it's a dirty thankless job. These teachers aren't planning to carry out these so-called "threats". They're just trying to keep their kids under control so that they can be safe. You know what they say about daycare; "Keep em clean, keep em safe, and send them home in one piece." And you know what they say about the "strong language" we use in the classroom: "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me."

Daycare in Alabama is basically pretty crappy and that's just the way it is. Since the worker pay is so low and the parents won't pay for good quality care, you just can't be surprised that the care your children receive is going to be pretty crappy. Also, children in daycare settings are safer than they are when they're being kept in the home by an overwhelmed, distracted mother who has other children to care for. Children in daycare are safer than they are if they are kept in the family home by an untrained babysitter. Homes are dangerous places for mobile infants and toddlers. Even though the kids may be yelled at and treated rudely in daycare, they're usually kept safe, clean, and fed. If you don't like the crappy daycare you receive in Alabama, maybe it's time to move to another more civilized state. Maybe it's time to move to North Carolina, Minnisota, or another progressive state that requires caycare centers to be of higher quality.

Isn't it sad that it's ok to lie to these children with all these empty threats??? We tell them we're going to spank them....and then we don't. We tell them that the "Easter Bunny is going to skip your house" and they still get an easter basket. We tell them that "we're going to cancel your birthday party" and we still have the party. These kids are so used to being lied to that they don't know what to believe. How sad that we lie to these kids and we wonder why they don't listen to us anymore. Why is it OK to lie to these children instead of just sticking with the truth? How terribly sad....
