Teacher Complaint: Mr. Jordan Henrichs - Lincoln Elementary School
Mr. Jordan Henrichs presented my 10-year-old with a so-called award on the last day of school 2010. My child has been diagnosed with ADD - a condition beyond his control & requires medication.
The reward, a bright yellow certificate presented to him in front of his peers, was as follows:

Thank you for always choosing silent reading time to work on your drawings! As if you had anything better to do!

This is demeaning, hurtful, extremely unprofessional,emotionally harmful & humiliating. Teachers are supposed to set an example. What kind of example does this set? That it's OK to make fun of people (let alone children) with diabilities? That it's OK to harm a child's self-esteem? Children have subscumbed to peer pressure & bullying. Some to the point of taking their own lives. Imagine the impact a teacher's words can have on a child's self-esteem. Is this the kind of teacher we want instructing our children?
