Teacher Complaint: Mr. Brian Kougl - Castle Park Middle

On August 17, 2011 I, Priscilla Ventura, called the school at about 9:30 am to inform the attendance clerk of a medical appointment my son would have that afternoon, therefor he would need to be excused a little before 3 pm. At about 2:48 pm I walked into the office where I was directed to see the attendance clerk, she recalled my earlier phone call and redirected me to see the Assistant Principal. At that time I was greeted by a secretary who then proceded to contant Mr. Kougl.I heard him say he would be right out. About 5 minutes later he walked out of the office into the school grounds totally ignoring my presence, the secretary called him by his name to get his attention and he responded "I will be right back". I saw through the windows that he walked over to a student then walked into the library. At that point I asked if there was someone else willing to help me? As the secretary was about to get someone else Mr. Kougl entered the office but again failed to acknowledge me. Once again the secretary mentioned I was there waiting to speak to him. He asked me to go into his office and I proceded to explain to him why I was there. His answer was that "by law I could not take my child out of school, especially during the hours of 3 & 3:15 pm." of course by this time about ten minutes had gone by and it was 2:58 pm I explained to him that that was great information to know for next time, but for now I needed to get my child on go on to the Dr.'s appointment that was scheduled for 3:15pm. He again said he could not get him at this time as if I was asking for his approval, and once again I explained I could not miss this appointment because my son is injured and had waited one month to get this appointment. He said "Education is very important to us" and I replied "I understand and it is important & I value education very much but can you please bear with me and get my child" he questioned me about not doing the online registration and asked when I could get it done? I replied as I was cought off guard that "it must have slipped my mind but will get it done this afternoon". At that point he asked me to take a seat while he located my son and I responded I knew exactly where he was, I told him he was in his accelerated science class with Ms. Abundis and he told me to take a seat. At that point I asked the secretary if there was any way they can call him on the intercom or send someone else to get him? she answered me no, it has to be an administrative person who gets him. Mr. Kougl then left the office as slow as he could be, reading or texting on his cell phone stopped to ask a child to tuck his shirt, waited for him to tuck his shirt then proceded & stopped to talk to a staff member all while texting on his phone and went into a classroom. I looked at the clock it was 3:07 by this time I was getting very upset by his actions. I saw him walk out of the classroom into another at that point I walked out of the office into campus to meet with my son so we can run out of there as we were already late. Mr. Kougl saw me walking over and he approached me and told me I needed to get back into the office and wait for my son there & that I wasn't allowed into the school without a visitors pass. I told him that he knew exactly who I was and knew exactly what I was there for but he replied " instead of wasting my time talking with you right now I can be getting your son out of class! now go to the office and wait for him there!" At that point I was very irritated and told him that was he was doing was bullshit and needed to get my son! I then left into the office and asked to speak to the school principal. I was very disturbed by the way I was being treated, I felt disrespected and bullied by this man, he was inapropriate and clearly doesn't distinguish a parent from a student. I saw him disapear around the building and then come around again, he then went into my sons classroom and got him out. By the time my son was released it was 3:13 only two minutes before class was dismissed. I told him I would talk to someone about this because his behavior was inappropriate and he needed to get off his cellphone while he has a parent waiting on him and maybe step it up a lil instead of walking like a snail! He shouted no I don't have to get off my cell as I can read and walk at the same time! now get out of here aren't you in a hurry! I said yes I am in a hurry but this will get to the the district office and I left. By the time I got in my car the bell had rang and all students were being dismissed. This kind of treatment no one should receive. Like I said I very much value education but my sons healt will come first anytime and I don't believe I should have been treated with such disrespect and humiliation.
