Teacher Complaint: Elaine Moore - Alturia Elementary School

The school year started ok until the big meeting with parents and they found out that our son was mixed white mommy and black daddy. From there it started we feel she did not like this she looked at our son different and treated him different.She would never say anything positive about him during parent meetings She only had negative things to tell us.She never incouraged him to do better. She just made him feel worse about himself amd showed this by not teaching him and letting him fail in doing so she failed as a teacher. She would make marks on his papers (Took 30min to finish) or (Extra time to complete)She did not do this at first only after I started being more upfront about how I was feeling about her teaching skills.I kept very positive with her knowing she may fail him if I was mean or negative to her.All of his assigments he brought home were getting worse and she was too.When I started emailing her about my concerns it seemed to get worse for my son she started making documentation and on every paper I even emailed her several times asking for help and she responded with it's too late if he keeps not paying attention and not finishing his paper work on time like the other classmates she would just mark his paper incomplete and he would then in fact fail him and this is what she said she would do.I have in email from her as proof.My son was not diag. with ADD but I felt like he had it and told her this at the very beggining of the school year.She felt that it was best to wait till Dec. to see how he was doing in class and not to test him becasue she felt that the school system would not say he did have it and it would ruin his chances in getting help in the future because he could not get tested again for several years.That is what she told me so I went with that not knowing she had a plan all along not to help him. So now we wait and it gets too far into the shool year to help him, but she never intended to help him.So infact she did fail him and held him back. We feel he was not taught and that she failed as a teacher in not teaching him.She new he had problems concentrating in class and could not stay on track for anything he even had problems reading and she would not assist him at all.My son would come home with incopmplete work and I would ask him why is this not finished and he said because Mrs. Moore would not help me I asked him did you ask her and he said yes but she would not answer him(she ignored him)he said I told him to keep trying.I even emailed her asking for help on reading and she told me he would have to ask her and she would not read nay of the work for him ( so she pretty much told me she was not going to help him.He would be punished for not completing work she would take away playtime and coloring time he would miss out on other activities. He would come home very upset but not always .She should not teach 1st grade she has no patience as she should have for a 1st grade teacher. He hates school and does not want to attend Alturia this coming year or any school for that matter.So we made a choice to move to another School District so we would not have to put up with the possibilty of this sort of thing happening again in your School "Discrimination" I have saved all emails for anyones viewing.

If your son has ADD you should get him tested. Once its determined he has ADD make the school put him on a 504 plan. Under the 504 the school must make accomidations for your son. ADD is a disability under the law and your son is protected only if he has a 504. This is the best way to make sure he is protected and not mistreated. If you are unfamiliar with the 504 you can do a search for 504 rehabilitation Act and read about it there. If your son is in public school they must follow the law or you can file a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights and the school can get their federal funding taken away.
I have been through this myself and feel your pain but with the 504 in place things got much better and the school now is forced to play nice.
