Teacher Complaint: Shakira Smith - Ps 36 Margaret Douglas School
There are more than one incident that has occurred with Shakira Smith starting with January 6, 2012. On January 6, 2012 I sent my son Clyde Moore to school perfectly find. Upon Clyde being picked up by a friend he appears to have had a busted lip. However that was not the case but when asking Clyde what transpired he was very upset and began crying. I the advocate and parent of Clyde called back to speak with the principal in which I was unsuccessful. After I reached home with Clyde his mouth was swollen to where he couldn't talk. I was very upset with what I was seeing. I asked Clyde what happened in which he stated that he ate something from another student. He also stated that his lip was itching in which he tried to tell Ms. Smith but she ignored him. He also said the other students were laughing at him cause his lip was getting bigger.
Ms. Smith never once called the nurse or tried to contact me to seek assist for my son. This kind of behavior is unacceptable an being that know one was aware of what happened, situations such as this can have an serious affect if not treated. Ms. Smith being an educator should know better and use the appropriate judgement when situations like this occurs. I've tried on numerous occasions to work with her as a team in which she agreed ONLY when meeting with the principal. After the meeting shes back to not communicating at all. There have been several incidents going back to November 2011.
On January 13,2012 we met with the principal in which the incident wasn't the focus it was more of Clyde's demeanor in class and his classwork. However I take these kind situations very seriously and well go to the highest level to ensure these kind of problems don't occur again and if so there be some kind of ACTION taken. Furthermore there was another situation today that left a very bad taste. It is to the point that I am taking my son out of the school and placing him somewhere else.
When people become teachers it should be cause they have a passion to work with children. I've work with children all my life and currently in school pursuing in Master's in Social Work. However in reading the MISSION statement given by the Superintendent(Ms. Gale Reeves)of District 5 there's so much Ms. Smith is lacking. As educators we must ensure that the children receive the best education possible and educate them on being productive in the community.
As Clyde's advocate I will do whatever I have to, to ensure he reaches the highest level of expectations. Education is power and he will know that he can do whatever his heart desires.
