Teacher Complaint: The Entire Cis Department - William Rainey Harper College
Wow. I thought we were all adults, but apparently, most of you are not. You've given me one of the worst college experiences I've ever had. It's a shame, but it happened. You all have a reason you're teaching at WRHC. For you full-time professors, it's because you couldn't get another job in your field for whatever reason(s). For you part-timers, it's because the job you do whenever you're not teaching isn't working out like you hoped you would or you have to take on another job to supplement your income.
It's said that the strengths students have matter at WRHC. That's a lie. If there was any truth to that, all of your students would have Cs or higher in the classes they're taking in your department. Unfortunately, you all don't care about their strengths, which results in most students getting Ds and Fs in your classes. That's a real shame.
You've lied, cheated, scammed, and done everything possible to create distrust between yourselves and the students you teach. You all claim to use the grading scales you put on your syllabi, when in fact, you use a grading scale that insures that students will not do well. Now's the time to call at least a few of you out.
Mr. Braunshweig, you're a nice enough guy, but you're incompetent. You're one of the reasons your department doesn't look so good right now. When students come to you with a complaint about a teacher that can't be resolved between them and the teacher, you dismiss it or don't do a thing to fix the problem! You only make it worse. You even go so far as to not respond to some students complaints. Ignoring students won't make the problems go away. I realize you have to make do with what you've got and stand behind your teachers, but you also have students who need you to stand behind them sometimes, too. You claim you don't see what our problems are. What do us students need to do? Put a giant neon sign that expresses our problems in front of your face? Also, please get a new photo on your page or get a new style. Your photo makes you look like a cross between a nerdy hillbilly and a balding sasquatch. It's not a pretty sight!
Dr. Curtin, your personality kind of fits your last name. It's as if you're hiding from the truth and what you're really doing behind a curtain. Changing students' grades a few weeks after you were supposed to have turned them into the appropriate people is not only unethical. It's immoral and illegal for teachers to do that. You should know better. You're a nice enough lady, but have no morals or ethics.
Dr. Bajt, your demeanor is very odd. I'm sure you're a nice enough lady, but that side of you doesn't show. You e-mail us constantly and use a nasty tone in most of your e-mails to the point that it not only makes us groan in discontent, but it also kind of verges on harassment. Do you seriously need to e-mail us at all hours of the day and night? Honestly, we don't think you do. You also can't grade fairly.
Ms. Zeger, you're nice enough, but make your class so tough and awful, it's impossible for most students to get above a D in your class. Since when was this alright? Since when was that conducive to learning?
Mr. Patel, you're a nice guy, but your thick accent sometimes makes it difficult for us students to understand you. It sometimes seems like you're either mumbling or like you're butchering the English language. For example, there were a few times us students caught you calling Java jawa, memory sticks mammary sticks, and cable ports crappy ports. Don't get us wrong. We don't mind being taught by people from other countries. We'd just like it if they'd clarify with us what we heard to make sure we're understanding everything. You don't grade fairly because you're not using the grading system you put on your syllabus for your classes. Most students in your classes are getting Ds and Fs. Why? You told us students you work for IBM when you're not teaching and that you've been working as part of a team on some software for over 10 years. In the course of 10 years, technology changes drastically. You should know that. What's wrong with this picture?
As a department, you all should be ashamed of yourselves as individuals and as a department. You've been caught red-handed. As a result, many more students won't be returning to WRHC. Some won't return because of grants, loans, or the current recession. Others won't return because of you guys. It's a sad fact. Us students sincerely hope you look at the issues and be proactive in fixing them. Maybe you all should enroll in some courses to familiarize yourself with the latest technology and attend some sensitivity, morals, and ethics training. It'd be a great New Year's resolution that is capable of being kept. Us students wish you all the best of luck with the large tasks ahead of you.
