Teacher Complaint: Mcdonald - Spruce Creek High School
There is no specific date on this complaint, except for the day Mr. Mcdonald began teaching at Spruce Creek High. After less than one year, he has completely lost interest in anything for the chorus as a whole. He picks favorites, he dosn't care about our sound or our performances. During his second year, this current year of 2011-12, he began doing West Side Story and began telling former students and other people how he does not care about the chorus (THE CLASS HE WAS HIRED TO TEACH) anymore, and all that matters to him is the play. He calls teaching this choir a stepping stone to something better. It's insulting to the students who love to sing and who were in chorus because it's something they love. Half of the students in "advanced" choir, have no idea how to sight read, which is basic stuff in beginning choir. Our sound quality since the retirement of Mrs. Guilliam after 2009 has dropped dramatically and we are even repeating songs from last year in our performances. Also, almost all of the songs we sing are religious, usually Christian, and are almost always in foreign languages.

If you would like to discuss this personally, I would love to. I'm sure you know that I give 100% in everything that I am apart of. I'm sorry that you feel otherwise but again, I would love to discuss any complaint that you have.
Thanks for writing,

Unless there are multiple McDonald's currently teaching at Spruce Creek High, then you must be very confused with the accusations that you are so haste to have made. The Mr. McDonald that I know, along with every other person whose life he has touched can tell you that he is the sweetest and most caring teacher that Spruce Creek has ever had the pleasure of having. He is extremely passionate not only about music but about the choir as a whole, I am sorry if that is hard for you to see but in which case you should probably open your eyes. He has done nothing but good things for the chorus, and this is not an opinion, it is merely a fact.
thank you,

I would like to reiterate what the Belle Chantique ADVANCED choir just wrote. Mr.McDonald has touched the hearts and lives of so many students here at Spruce Creek High School.Even Before making any final decisions on producing West Side Story he spoke to all his students and poured his heart out explaining that he did not want the students to think he was forgetting about them. In FACT, the reason why he even put on the show in the first place was to bring people to the chorus (and it did). Our numbers have grown, and the students are actually enjoying themselves. Ms.Gilliam was a great teacher and she taught her students to sing properly and she introduced old styles of music that where also spiritual/christian and they where also in different languages. Why is that a bad thing? Mr.McDonald has brought fun to this choir. Why is THAT a bad thing. I just dont understand why youre complaining about this when you should be complaining about those other teacher that REALLY dont care about their students. Mcd is a friend, a role model, and a FANTASTIC teacher. Have A nice day confused writer.
sincerely,
WSS cast. :)

You are entitled to your own thoughts and opinions. I however, think its rude to go on some random website, and bash someone else & their work. If you think you have better ideas for this "so called Choir", don't be a coward and say it anonymously. He has an office, you can step right into & have a dialogue with him. You will lose that argument, but it never hurts to try. I am a senior, and this is my first year in Chorus. Advanced Chorus at that. And its all because I met a teacher who believed in me, and saw something in me, that convinced me to join. Am I the best singer? No. Can I sight read? I'm a hell of a whole lot better since Mr. McDonald taught me. With all respect to Mrs. Guillam as a teacher, All I ever hear is how many people disliked her, which is probably why the chorus was so small up until this year. 2 Chorus classes to 4, in only one year? The man must be doing something right. People WANT to hear us now. Oh, and as a former cast member from WSS, I disagree, he put on that show to promote the chorus. How many chorus kids were leads? Most of them. Oh, and besides the fact that he comes to school because he was hired, he comes because music is his passion. I've never had a teacher who worked so hard to let his students shine. If anything, its students like you that make the "Advanced Choir" so juvenile. If you don't wanna be there, you don't have to be. Besides, the man is a great friend. Why you would talk down on such a great person, is beyond me.
Sincerely, JP.
