Teacher Complaint: Lanny Ledeboer - Columbia Basin Secondary School

Constantly Mr. Ledeboer has done things day by day that I see all the time that aren’t good for any form of teaching conduct, he is not a kind person all around. Frequently he brings up subjects of religion, and how he can't allow himself to believe in god or any form of religion, further imposing his beliefs on his students by saying everyday that 'he is the world’s smartest man', almost challenging everybody because of his own deep insecurity. Whenever someone is a Christian and he has a subject where he can challenge their beliefs in front of everybody he does so no matter what, even if the student is in a situation where it shows anxiety or displeasure, he forces them to answer giving them no other option. Often he'd have debates with religious kids that aren't even sixteen years old yet and he implies to them that there really is no god no matter what they say, even taking it as far as to say 'If there is a god may he strike me with lightning and kill me now'. Obviously these things aren't decent for anybody’s religious views at school and can even make some people feel indecent to answer his questions due to the common youth’s fear of being put under too much pressure. But that isn't the only thing, I could go on as well. Certain students who aren't as keen as others, he makes a point of making a nuisance of, even after they have gotten the picture and succeeded a good deal due to fear of Mr. Ledeboer harassing them, they still get centered out in class all the time because Mr. Ledeboer turns it into a ritual type feature where he will harass them all year which can even imply some mental degrading features over time due to his tactics, which is obviously not good for the students and their time of growing to be around such situations, these things might imply permanent affects over certain students. Whenever someone has the idea that they did something good on an assignment and Mr. Ledeboer sees it, even if it is in front of the class, he will degrade the student to a very critical level that is demeaning almost like the student has mental retardation, even taking it to the level of sometimes drawing it out on the board while harassing the student and telling them what they did wrong, obviously something else that isn't good and can be unsettling for students, not to mention ones with vulnerability on a deeper lever than others. I mean I don't want to drown your ear out with a million complaints about how he teaches, but I could go on with even more information. He has even token it as far as to challenge peoples sexuality before the class! He degrades people’s cultures in front of them and the entire class and even joins in with students while they racially harass a certain culture, further inviting them to bring racism into the world even more. He has gone as far as to tell girls to pull up their pants because girls don't sag, which is almost like sexual harassment since he is implying these things in front of the entire class to where people can look as she has to stand up and pull her pants up while everybody’s watching because Mr. Ledeboer wants them too and will even take it as after as to stop class until they do. Honestly this guy has a long list of things that I could point out that are bad for students. I don't know how well he is within his right, I know he is in a teachers union and has years as a teacher but with things like these going on I don't think any of that really matters, he needs to have his teaching tactics assessed to some level or some matter of action needs to be taken for the students to assert these situations from ever happening again. It clearly isn’t good school productivity and can harm a student’s environment so something should be done about these situations. Please take full effort to look into this.

THE TRUTH!

I have to say that the person writing this complaint really has a distorted and biased view of this teacher. Perhaps he is one of those he talks about who feels "mentally degraded" and "deeply vunerable", because I highly doubt any other students have come together and declared that they all feel that way [because] of Mr. Ledeboer. That's exaclty what Mr. Ledeboer does. He challenges you- he forces you think outside the box, and in my opinion that's one of his best teaching methods. I object to the fact this student thinks he imposes his own beliefs or that he exploits the beliefs of others. Maybe you shouldn't show up baked to a crisp to school every day and then you wouldn't be so nervous and flabbergasted when he asks you a silly question! Buck up!

Mr. Ledeboer is actually a fantastic and highly intellectual person. He is one of the most respected and cherished teachers at that school. My entire graduating class was very fond of him and I learned more valuable, stimulating, and useful information in his Current World Problems class than I think I learned in all the previous classes of my high school career combined.

To anonymous 1,
At least Jamal has the fortitude to publish his name. You, on the other hand, remain anonymous and accuse him of coming to school "baked". That, even if true, has no bearing on this discussion. It just shows that you are bigoted against pot-smokers. And who are you to speak for your "entire graduating class" ? Your opinion is valuable but you cannot speak for others. If the only proof of God is the striking of death, then God will prove himself to everyone eventually, including Mr. Ledeboer. It doesn't take the smartest man in the world to figure out that riddle.

Ah, you see, I don't even have to say anything. :-) The girl with the supposedly anonymous name is "Audrey Bennet". She walks about with a sense of self pride like no other. I don't really care. What I do know is, Mr. Ledeboer can be a good teacher, the problem is he over does his role more than less. As the person before me just said too, you can't speak for anyone but yourself. If you believe your value is higher than anyone else’s you are wrong. Especially you Audrey. If I was mentally degraded I'm sure Mr. Ledeboer would find out somehow. I show my true colors very well. The fact that you assume that I even care about what a teacher thinks on a realistic level is pretty funny though. I have a life. But thanks for making my point more ‘known’.

First of all, I think it's rude of you to try and degrade Mr. Ledeboer. He is a wonderful teacher and has been teaching the same way for years and years. Maybe you should take a chill pill and actually listen to what he is saying, because he gives great advice and teaches very well. I do agree on behalf of Jamal that Mr. Ledeboer has taken things a little further than he needed to, but he doesn't do it too often and if you let it be known that you didn't like any of the remarks that he said, then he will apologize for it and not do it anymore. Mr. Ledeboer is a very respected teacher and doesn't need anyone writing any complaints on the web. You got something to say, man up and say it to him. Don't be a puss!!

Everybody has said a lot to his face. He doesn't exactly take a toll like you'd expect. Which is a good feature, don't get me wrong, but when you are trying to prove a point it's kind of annoying. I didn't expect it to gain this much
'publicity' but oh well, crap happens. It seems to me like you guys are taking more offense to this than Mr. Ledeboer himself.

I would not hold my breath for Mr. L to respond. For one thing, I don't think he knows or cares to know how to google himself. He is stuck in another era where "google" was not a word and cassette tapes and vinyl albums were all the rage. If you don't know what those are, just google :) Secondly, when you are the smartest person in the world there is no need to respond to inferiors. It is my experience that when one does not respond, it generally means that one HAS no response for one of two reasons: 1) He has no logical defense or, 2) The argument is so nonsensical that no defense is needed. Just keep an open mind and learn from all your teachers, whether that is a tenured member of a teachers union or a bum on the street. Everyone has an opinion and an asshole. And every asshole has an opinion.

Agreed:

Everyone has an opinion and an asshole. And every asshole has an opinion.

I Like this teacher for the reason of he dont give a shit. becides i dont think the problem is him. if you want to stop it. dont feed his ego. if he stoped getting a reaction to everything he did he would stop doing it. BUT As long as he does get one youll hear about it. on everything including religion.. He is making you think about things. making him a good teacher.

keep doin what your both doin.
