Teacher Complaint: Collen Ward - Mary B Martin Elementary School
The teacher invited students on field trips without signed permission ships from September to December. This teacher was not the students' teacher but she extended the invitations to participate on a field trip 10 to 15 minutes before a bus departure. Although the principal stated signed permission slips and not phone permission were the only option, the teacher continued the offers to some students. The students' teacher had to respect the principal and the district procedure and say no. This created a very unfair learning environment for the students and the teacher. In addition, the principal was aware that the students were not invited to the field trip or received permission slips when the Colleen Ward knew for weeks of the field trip. This concern was brought to the principal's attention in the months of September through February but the implementation of field trips invitations did not happen.
After school dismissal a student was brought back into the school building in handcuffs by a police officer. Colleen Ward did not inform the student’s teacher. Instead she took student into her room and later let him walk home on his home. Thus, a liability was placed on district as well as to the student. The student had pending violations with the courts.
