Teacher Complaint: Eric Hagen - Eastlake Middle School

This year as an eighth grader I have chosen Orchestra as an elective at Eastlake Middle, aware that it is a one year commitment to stay in that class. However, i have noticed that in other electives, many students were able to switch out to a different elective. While in Orchestra, since I started as a seventh grader, my teacher would repeatedly say that "if you do not feel that Orchestra is meant for you, it is best to find another elective". Today i had gone up to my orchestra teacher during my lunch to inform him that I didn't feel that orchestra was specifically for me, and that I wanted to switch to choir. Upon saying this, my teacher responded saying that it did not matter that I wanted to switch and that I had to stay in orchestra regardless of how i felt. He continued to say that he had talked to my counselor saying that no one was switching. Not wanting to talk back, i respectfully said "okay" and went back to my lunch. When i had to return to my Orchestra class, he had lectured the entire class (as he usually does) and he brought up that i had talked to him, saying "today even a girl went up to me and said "Well i don't feel that orchestra is for me'", and when he was repeating what i had told him he used a mocking tone in his voice and said that no one was allowed to switch out of Orchestra. In addition, he did notice the fact that i had started to cry because he had just in front of the entire class, pointed me out for something that i wanted to keep between me and the teacher be shared with the entire class, but he continued to add on to mocking what i had said. A few days earlier, he had pulled aside another Orchestra student and had told her that the entire class was happy, making a reference to when in class he had said "i'm just trying to make everyone happy" and said that only people that had not practiced their music were unhappy. There is a group of about five or less that wish to switch out of Orchestra, and all of us have a grade higher than a B, proving that we are one of those students who in fact have practiced our music and are responsible in class. For a week I have been through this, and I do not want to stay in a class where the teacher will just mock me and keep me there to be miserable for a whole semester.
