I am the guardian of my sister, since my mother is deceased. My sister is having difficulties focusing in her class for the fact that her teacher consistently and constantly badgers her in front of her peers which is hurtful, embarrassing, and discouraging. Mrs. Smith's negativity not only affects my sister, but also affects me through my sister by witnessing her gloomy moods after school. After asking what bothered her, she replied " My teacher Mrs. Smith called me a dumb broad." Since I was in shock I had to ask her to repeat it again so that I heard correctly, but I got the same reply. There is more to discuss, but I rather take it further and speak to someone that will resolve this issue because my sister basically had to be suspended for something that could have been prevented by a "professional" teacher. This only shows that Mrs. Smith has no professionalism, is very negative and immature. If anything Mrs. Smith is suppose to benefit these students and motivate them. Not badger them and discourage them from attending school. I know that my sister is not the only victim of teacher bullying, so now I have to take matters into my own hands to solve this issue. Hopefully Mrs. Smith will realize the impact that she has on her students.

As a parent of a former student who has spent a significant amount of time at the school, I find this complaint against Mrs. Smith completely shocking for several reasons. Mrs. Smith is the teacher that works late and on weekends, she is the teacher that is at the school during the summer cleaning up when most teachers are away on vacation. She is the teacher who takes money out of her pocket to pay for students when then can’t afford to pay their senior dues or lunch for a trip, or school activities.

This school is in Brownsville and I can only imagine how difficult it is to work at. Many students come into the school with a list of problems (young inexperienced mothers, drug abuse, alcoholism, many living in shelters or moving from home to home, neglect, parents with mental disorders, a history of sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse, ect.), that affect them academically and behaviorally in school. Mrs. Smith is emotionally invested in her students and pushes them to push themselves and although she understands personal problems; she does not allow her students to make their problems their “excuses.” She is the teacher most parents WANT their child to have.

I cannot say the incident above did or did not happen because I was not there. However, there are always two sides to every story and given Mrs. Smith’s many years of teaching experience and personal dedication to her students; I simply don’t see her calling any of her students a “dumb broad,” in the manner described above. Mrs. Smith is an asset to the school and the students would definitely suffer emotionally and academically if she ever decided to leave.
