Why is she allowed to be teaching minors? Does the school not know?

Hello Gail,

My name is Christopher, I went to Northern Nash Senior High School and had Ms. Chris Zarr as my Drama teacher. I was thumbing through some pictures of my high school days and came across a picture of me and my favorite teacher, Ms. Zarr, so I thought I would look her up on Google and see what she was up to.I was surprised to see her name pop up under this website. All I can say to this post is that Chris Zarr was and is the single most inspiring person in my life. First of all, I do not see how this post pertains to any professional complaint against Ms. Zarr. This site was made for complaints and concerns involving the professional teaching and educational system. This "complaint" sounds more like a personal issue for which I think you should deal with on a personal level. This is more of general response to all people on this site who use it as a vehicle to abuse the PROFESSIONAL careers of educators, who, I believe, are the pillars of society. Ms. Zarr is a prime example of these pillars. She teaches her students so much, not only about the fascinating theatre, but also about life in general. I have never learned so much in a classroom that has also helped me out here in the "real" world. I have learned the value of true professionalism, the ever important "time is money" mantra, of course the importance of "fake it 'til you make it" as well as knowing that all good things come to those who wait and work hard for their dues. I know that Chris Zarr is one of the hardest working teachers in the system and she has inspired so many students as well as winning countless awards for her efforts, while sitting in her office one day I noticed all of her accomplishments sitting on a shelf behind her, thoughtfully displayed were many "teacher of the month", year, district, and state levels. As well as many letters of gratitude and appreciation for Chris' efforts toward educating and treating her children in the classroom with the respect.

The only thing I have to say about her husband is that I worked with him several times on different shows with Chris and her husband (I guess now ex-husband) was just short of a nightmare. He yelled and treated students with a sort of patronizing tone and manner that was utterly insulting to young adults. That is my truth, and many of my fellow students who remember would most certainly agree with me.

Gail, I believe that you are wrongly trying to bring personal issues to the public front which is extremely irrational and vindictive of you. This is an opinion of someone who has now become an extremely successful producer in the industry thanks to the initial drive and support of this amazing woman. As a personal and professional favor for everyone who uses this site for reasons pertaining to the intentions for which it was originally created: please keep stories and the opinions that you have dealing with issues in your personal life - personal. That seems like a reasonable request to me.

On an ending note, Chris Zarr will always remain in my mind as a woman who has inspired me to achieve great heights.

Thank you so much Chris for all you have given me and all you will continue to give me through your advice, optimism, and overall kindness. You are a shining star in a very dark world, and I thank you for that. I only hope that your life will bring you good things and that people who mean you harm will fade into the background.

As a parent, I believe if these accusations are true they certainly do belong in this type of forum. Afterall, Mrs. Zarr is in contact with minor children.

Did you not note that is a part of the complaint that she is contacting a minor? I cannot fathom any reasonable motive for that and find that alarming. As a parent, I want to know that my child is in capable hands and this makes me wonder.

Perhaps if she extended her dedication that you seem to be familiar with in her personal life and especially emotional healing, this complaint wouldn't exist at all.

I had Chris as a teacher in NC also and had a very similar experience as XXX. She was an awesome teacher and quality person. She was a hugely popular teacher among the students and praised by other faculty and administration. Chris was thought of so highly see was teacher of the year in NC. We really miss her and wish she was still here. I cannot tell you how much she has done for me to challenger me during my time with her at our school. It is concerning someone would post a statement on a public form as this to discredit a person with such a great reputation. I see statements made with no backing documentation or any proof. I am very sad anyone would consider this truthful information about Chris. If this lady Gail had information that was truthful it would not be displayed here in a public form as the internet but would be handled legally or with the school administration.
The only negative thing I ever experience was also when her then husband Jan Zarr assisted us for school events. Jan was an emotional nut. He continually exploded at the littlest things and public humiliated Chris at numerous occasions. He is scary unstable. I cannot say I’m unhappy with the outcome of their marriage since she should have kicked him to the curb long ago.

I followed the provided link and found that there is truth in this complaint.

I find it duplicitous that both 'defenders' would attempt to reprimand the orginal poster for their complaint. They cite respect of privacy, but yet both felt it necessary to slander the ex husband in this public forum?

Perhaps "talking out both sides of the mouth" should be included with the other cliche sayings in the diatribe of Mr. Extremely Successful Producer. Or perhaps Ms. Multiple Personality should be a bit more original.

My daughter has attended class with Ms. Zarr and has had nothing but praise for her. I don’t hear this much from my daughter but she seems to be one making a great difference in our students lives. I have only met Chris one time and was very impressed with her. I do strongly recommend her and have done so many times to other parents. The only issues I have heard of was again with her ex – husband Jan Zarr running around like a crazy person at the office insulting his now ex – wife. I wish Chris nothing but the best and hope she teaches in our school for many years to come.

I have Chris for class here in Boise and she is one of my favorite teachers. She is an excellent teacher. Her reputation at our school is also very excellent and she is well spoke of by all. I had no idea she was from NC or was awarded a teacher of the year until reading here but I must say I am not surprised. I cannot recommend her enough as a teacher and person. I cannot believe people would post items like this. What is Gail talking about “picture mail”?

I understand most of all you read on the internet is fiction but this is mean hearted. I agree with NC student and Christopher this does not appear to be the appropriate place for such things. I believe this site is for school related items and not personal issues that happen outside of school. In addition Sara’s comments are interesting since all the items that refer to Jan Zarr appear to have happen IN school which appear to fit much better to this site.
