Teacher Complaint: Macy Muehlur - Sandburg El

On approximately December 15, 2011, my 4 year-old daughter ran away from the line of students the teacher was leading out of school at the end of the day, and came running and crying with her head held very low toward me. As I was asking my daughter what had happened her 4K "teacher" Macy Buhler yelled out to me, my daughter, and the other 30 people that were in the school yard "she is the only one that can't write her name, she is the only one that can't put on or zip up her coat. I know it is hard to hear this type of thing, but sometimes you just have to face the facts". This "teacher made it her claim to fame to have the (four year-old students) putting on and zipping up their own coats ect.. if they could not they came outside in 20 degree or lower weather improperly dressed. Mortified, I told her "how could you! I can't believe that you just said that to a 4 year-old, you know what you are doing and saying is so wrong"! I immediately went to the principles office. While heading there my daughter told me that she was crying because the "teacher" was scolding and embarrassing her in front of the class just before coming out of the building. After hearing my side and the "teacher's side the principle stated that he was going to take the middle ground. Apparently the "teacher" LIED about what occurred right in front of my eye's. This teacher also attempted paint me as a difficult to deal with parent, because I am involved and she want's NO input, or it offends, scares, and intimidates her. I reluctantly attempted to smooth things over with the teacher, so my daughter could remain in school. The principle approved my spending an hour in my daughter's class, because my instincts and professional experiences alerted me to the fact that this teacher was dealing with a monumental amount of personal problems. During this visit I witnessed this "teacher" grab a 4 year-old child's sweater after he asked her to zip up his coat and the "teacher" stated "can't you see shameer, it's right in front of your eyes!
The school superintendent would not even return my e-mails, the assistant superintendent admitted to being new, unskilled in this field, and at a loss of what to do, and the principle kept repeating he was the advocate for the children, but he only advocated for the teacher's privacy and refused to tell me what actions were being taken to protect the children.
I marched around the Wisconsin State capital-building to advocate for teachers rights, and I have and will continue to vote in accord to teacher's rights, but the rights of my child and all children should come first. There is however, a different and lower ideal held by the Wisconsin school superintendent, vice superintendent, and the principle of Sandburg Elementary school in Madison, Wisconsin.
