Teacher Complaint: Barb Faulkner - Ridgeway Elem.
My actual problem has been all year long. Our teacher teaches 4th and 5th grades in the same classroom. Next year she is scheduled to teach 5th and 6th grades together again. She lost her job at her previous school and has bitter feelings about it. The grade cards we receive in the mail have grades that change drastically in a matter of 2 weeks or less and when I approached the teacher about the problem, she had yet another grade entirely in her grade book. She has lied to my husband. She singles out my son for punishment just for approaching her about anything. She refuses to help my son when he asks for it citing that she has 2 classes to teach, and no time to help the students and then demands that they turn in the in school assignments incomplete. My son has gotten homework with no book, and the teacher complained to the class that she is tired of parent notes about not having books for assignments. Instead of assessing where the class is in terms of knowledge, and adjusting her teaching to their level, she just assumes they know what she demands and moves on without instruction.
My husband and I have approached the super intendant of the school about the problem, and she refuses to address the issues and lies about what she tells our son as well. Now we are in the process of addressing the school board about all the problems.
I think it is terrible that I had an A student who loved learning and school who has dropped considerably in grades - to the point of almost not passing the grade- that now hates school and can't learn from a demanding and demeaning teacher. This teacher also refuses to acknowledge that other students pick on my son and literally shove him out of line until my son tried to stand up for himself and was the one punished. This teacher has no business in a classroom and is unfit to lead children. Her own feelings should have no part in student grades, and she needs to realize that she needs to treat her students equally. She shouldn't cater to only the students who have parents working in the school in any capacity. I am willing to take any steps necessary to remove her from the classroom, and at this point I am considering home schooling my son.
Thank you,
Amy Eivins
